Fortnite Pirate Token Chance: How Rare Is It?

Epic has not published the drop rate. Here is every figure in circulation, where it comes from and how much weight it deserves.

Run the numbers on both estimates

Chance of at least one token = 1 − (1 − p)n, where p is the per-chest rate and n is the number of chests opened. Epic has not published p, so pick an estimate.

One report puts a realistic count at 20–40 chests opened per match.
Several outlets report that one find is shared with the whole squad, so teammates’ chests count too. Use 1 for solo play.

Not a prediction. These are independent-chest odds from unconfirmed estimates; opening “1 in N” chests does not guarantee a token. The two presets are 350 times apart, which is why both are shown.

Vice is explicit that the first figure “should not be treated as a confirmed drop rate”, because it rests on how many players had won rewards so far. That caveat applies to every number on this page.

Why the leaker model gives 1 in 2,000

The chain is easy to check and easy to challenge. GameRant and Vice put the chance that a chest rewards anything at roughly 1%, or one in 100. Within a reward, the Supreme tier is estimated at 5–10%, with the leaker leaning toward 10%. Vice’s version of the chain assumes two equally likely Supreme rewards, the token and the Solid Gold A$AP Rocky outfit, so the token gets half. GameRant’s tier list names a third, the Solid Gold Lil Uzi Vert outfit.

Change any link and the answer moves. At a 5% Supreme share the same chain gives 1 in 4,000. If all three Supreme rewards in GameRant’s list share the tier equally (see the chest rewards page), the token’s share falls to one in three, which on our arithmetic is 1 in 3,000. These are our own what-ifs built on the leaker’s inputs, not published figures.

What early finders report

The first widely shared find came from a player known as snowslept, who said they won it in their third match after opening about 150 chests. GameRant adds that some players reportedly got it after a few hundred chests and others after a few thousand.

Those reports are real data points but biased ones, because people who win post about it and people who do not stay quiet. Still, the arithmetic is worth seeing: finding the token within 150 chests has about a 7.23% chance at 1 in 2,000 and about 0.021% at 1 in 700,000. A fast find is easier to explain with the lower number, though early reports are anecdotal and people who win are more likely to post about it.

What this means for you

Playing for the token is a lottery, not a grind with a known payoff. Even under the generous estimate you should expect to open a lot of chests, and under the other one it may never happen for most players. Nothing suggests a better method than opening chests in normal matches, which is covered on the how to get the token page. If you do find one, jump to the activation guide and note the December 15 deadline.

Frequently asked questions

What is the chance of getting the Pirate Shop Token?

Epic has not published it. Third-party estimates run from about 1 in 2,000 chests (leaker Blortzen, via Vice and GameRant) to 1 in 700,000 (cited by Insider Gaming). Neither is confirmed.

Will opening 2,000 chests guarantee a token?

No. A 1 in 2,000 rate means each chest has that chance independently. After 2,000 chests your chance of having found at least one is about 63%, so some players will open far more without finding it.

Does the chance change if I already have other Treasure Hunters rewards?

GameRant reports that Major and Supreme rewards are removed from your pool once you obtain them. That would make the token a larger share of what is left, so your odds would rise slightly. This is a single report and unconfirmed.

Does playing in a squad help?

Shacknews and TheGamer report that one find is shared with the squad. If that holds, every teammate’s chests add to the squad’s chance, which is why the calculator has a squad field.
